I have always been an admirer of legal thrillers, so I just couldn’t miss Netflix’s latest legal drama, The Lincoln Lawyer.
It’s a thriller series about a Los Angeles criminal defence attorney, Mickey Haller, who prefers to work his cases out of the backseat of his vintage Lincoln car. As quoted from the very first episode, “The Lincoln becomes you.”
This series is based on Michael Connelly’s novel The Brass Verdict (2008).
Mickey Haller, the leading character, is performed by Manuel Garcia Rulfo, who has done justice to this charismatic lawyer. Haller is particularly witty and loves the thrill of unexpected twists in his cases.
The opening episode depicts the fortunate turn of events for Mickey Haller’s career as a big shot lawyer following the murder of an old acquaintance. He is left with an entire law practice, and if anyone could handle multiple cases thrown at him at once, it would surely be him.
Throughout the season, he never fails to work his charm with brilliance. He represents clients, not exactly considering innocence as the deal-breaker; rather, he believes in the old saying, “Better a thousand guilty men go free than one innocent man rot in prison.”
Our witty lawyer here combs through thousands of such cases for that one falsely accused defendant. I would describe our charismatic lawyer as a family man as well, even though he has two ex-wives. He cares for both of them and his daughter from his first marriage, making it more difficult for us to not like him.
Mickey Haller isn’t your typical lawyer; everything about him is on point, from his vintage Lincoln to his classy tortoise shell frame sunglasses: the Lincoln Lawyer sunglasses.
Despite Haller’s numerous cases, the plot centres on his high-profile case of Trevor Elliott. The episodes mainly depict his struggles to crack the mystery behind this case which would determine his fate as a lawyer.
He somehow charms us and the other characters into turning any negative scenario to his advantage. When I say that this show has piqued my interest, I should warn you that I am a sucker for legal thrillers.
From Manuel’s performance to the thrilling storyline, everything about this drama is quite fascinating. The suspense of every case and its verdict is something that I loved watching in this show.
As when Haller finally solves the puzzle of that high-profile case, but it’s too late, and events eventually revert to his favour. It highlights how sometimes the truth is right in front of our faces, but we fail to recognize it.
The way he drives around in his Lincoln, attempting to solve the cases, is not the kind of law practice we see every day. Not to mention, his sleek tortoise shell frame sunglasses add a sophisticated touch to his personality.
The title alone screams eagerly about the exciting events that will unfold during the series. Haller’s witty comebacks, whether in court to prove a point or while dealing with tough people, are just amazing!
The 10 episodes of The Lincoln Lawyer are binge-worthy with their balance between drama and thrill. I loved every minute of these episodes watching Mickey Haller work his magic to make everything seem possible.
I wouldn’t describe the show as flawless, but if you are someone who loves to enjoy your weekend watching a show that keeps you guessing about what’s going to happen next, this is the show for you.
The exciting turn of events in his life, both inside and outside the courtroom, provides intrigue to this legal drama. The first season of The Lincoln Lawyer is absolutely entertaining, and I can’t wait for the next season to begin. Give it a watch and enjoy the Lincoln ride!
